CBA Material: Objectives and Overview

The SCERT CBA Practice Material aims to enhance mathematical understanding and address low-performing skills and misconceptions identified through 2023-24’s classroom-based assessments (CBA) scores. What is a Misconception?

A misconception is a misunderstanding of a mathematical concept, often due to incorrect or missing knowledge. Misconceptions can occur due to various factors, including:

• Concrete to Abstract Transition: Moving from hands-on objects to abstract concepts without proper support.
• Cognitive Development Stages: Children may not be ready to grasp certain abstract concepts at different developmental stages.
• Lack of Real-world Application: Difficulty connecting math concepts to everyday life.
• Lack of Practice and Reinforcement: Insufficient repetition and practice of concepts.

Misconceptions vs. Mistakes in Mathematics

Misconceptions and mistakes are distinct:

• Misconception: A misunderstanding of a mathematical concept due to incorrect or missing knowledge.
• Mistake: An error in calculation or judgment despite having correct knowledge.

To use the material effectively:

1. Read the sample question and understand the misconception.
2. Watch the video, read the activity, and MCQ questions to familiarize yourself with the content.
3. Assign 2 periods in one week to complete the material.
4. Follow the sequence: LEARN (video), PRACTICE (activity), and ASSESS (MCQ questions).

Receive teaching material every week and complete it within the same week:
